Solutions to COX Webmail Login Issues

If you are not able to log into your Cox email account even after entering the correct login credentials, you can use some of the solutions given below to get into your account.

Check your Internet Connection

If you are not able to sign into your COX webmail account, it may be because of a bad internet connection. You can try reconnecting your device to the network by turning off your device’s mobile data or Wi-Fi and turning it back on after a few sections.

However, if your internet is working fine, then you can move ahead with other methods to resolve your signing-in issues.

Set Up an Account with the Correct Mail Server Settings

Setting up a Cox account using a third-party webmail client will require inputting server settings, like when adding Webmail to Gmail. Wrongly entering them can also result in log-in troubles with Cox webmail accounts. To determine whether you have entered the settings correctly, refer to the Cox webmail server settings information below:

Incoming Mail Server – IMAP

  • Incoming Mail Server Name: imap.cox.net
  • Port No.: 993
  • SSL: Yes
  • Username: Your Cox email address
  • Password: The password you use to sign in to your Cox email account.

Outgoing Mail Server – SMTP settings

  • Outgoing Mail Server Name: smtp.cox.net
  • Port No.: 465
  • SSL: Yes
  • Authentication Required: Yes
  • Username: Your Cox email address
  • Password: The password you use to sign in to your Cox email account.

Cox Email Lock Out

If you are trying to log into your account, but can’t and have gone through several failed login attempts, then you will be locked out of it. The Cox system will automatically initiate the Lock Out, and you will no longer be able to enter your email account. This is done to prevent any break-in attempt on your account by an unauthorized person.

Cox says you may not be able to get into your account after the lockout, but you can try logging in again after resetting your password. The steps for the same are given above in the article.

Forgotten Secret Answer

You will not be able to log into your COX email account if you have forgotten your password. And in order to recover it, you need to answer your security question. But, if you have forgotten that, too, you won’t be able to reset your password.

Then, you must ask, how can you get out of this situation? In such a case, what you can do is, contact Cox Customer Support, to help you recover your password. Once you have it, you can use it to sign into your email account and change your secret answer.

The steps to do so are given below:

  1. First, log into your Cox email account.
  2. Click on the My Account option.
  3. Then, select Edit Secret Question.
  4. Finally, select a new Secret Question from the given list, and enter the Secret Answer to that question.

Multiple Failed Verification Attempts

You may know that when you enable two-step verification for your Cox webmail account, you have to enter a passcode sent to you via email or message on the email account or phone number, respectively that is linked to your Cox account.

However, for some reason, if you have gone through five unsuccessful attempts to enter the passcode (One-time passcode), your account will be temporarily locked. You will not be able to log into it for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, you can sign into your account again by going through the two-step verification.

Here are a few things you need to remember about the one-time passcode:

  • You will receive the passcode on the phone number or email address that you have added or linked to your Cox account for two-step verification. Also, ensure that the email you provide is a non-Cox email address. It should not have a @cox.com domain.
  • As soon as you receive the passcode, enter it in the required screen. Keep in mind that the code expires after five minutes after it is sent to you.
  • If you haven’t received the code, then you can click on the Re-send Code option to get another passcode.
  • After you have received a new passcode, the previous code will become invalid. You only have to enter the latest received code.

Contact Cox Customer Support

After all these solutions, if you still can’t get into your account, the last thing you can do is contact Cox Customer Support. You can even seek them out to help you reset your password, recover your Cox email address, and get into your account after lock-out.
